What is the minimum wage of where you live? What do you think the min wage should be?

Published by admin on November 30, 2009

The minimum wage of where I live is $7.00 Canadian. I personally think that minimum wage should be calculated like this: If you work full-time (aka 40h/week), all year round, with 2 weeks vacation, how much would you have to earn per hour to make the poverty line in your community. Where I live, $7.00/h still puts you around 10 000 BELOW the poverty line. I am also really bad in economics, so maybe I am just ignorant to the way things work.
Question A) Where do you live, and how much is the minimum wage there?
Question B) How much do you think the minimum wage should be?
Question C) How should minimum wage be calculated

Feel free to answer any or all of these~!

I live in West Virginia, USA and minimum wage is $5.15 per hr. As to whether how much it should be…I don’t think it makes a whole lot of difference, cause once the minimum wage goes up, so will everything else, so in order to pay the employees a higher wage, they will have to raise the price on there products, so that in turn putting us in the same situation as before rasing the wage. I feel min wage should be calulated according to the poverty level, and to find a way that both the employer and emplee makes a better wage.

Has anyone had any experience earning a certificate or degree online?

Published by admin on November 30, 2009

I want to learn medical coding and billing and was looking for a school online. I don’t want to be scammed so I was just wondering if other people have had any good experience?

There are tons of online programs. I personally attended traditional and online-only schools, and I have taught for various online schools and traditional schools over the last five years. All are accredited and solid programs. Schools tend to vary in price, so we could say online schools are more expensive, but that is relative. Of course they are more expensive than a community college, but less expensive than Harvard. The price range varies.

The key is to find a program that is fully accredited. Is it worth it? YES. My career has boomed since my MBA at nearly 5 years ago. I am close to finishing my PhD through distance education, and I am at the job that I want. I know I wouldn’t be here without the education. If you are looking at work in the U.S., then you need a school that is accredited and recognized by the Dept of Ed. I can give more info on that later.

You should market yourself and not the degree or university. There are many traditional universities offering degrees that can be earned through online methods. Distance Learning Alliance has a list of these traditional online schools. Look at that if you are truly concerned with the name of the school. Good luck on your search!

Where can i earn a RN degree in AZ?

Published by admin on November 30, 2009

I am interested in getting a RN Associates in Arizona. But the waiting list for the Maricopa Community Colleges is too long. Where can i find (or can someone post) a listing of other schools that i can earn this degree at?

Oh, and not interested in online classes/degree (i learn best in person), and any accelerated programs (<=2 years) would be ideal.

Community college is the best one and cheap one. There is not shortcut in medical field. My friend went to private RN school she can’t even put a IV on the patient. So I wish you a good luck.

Any ideas on how to make a kitchen and bath remodeling business grow?

Published by admin on November 29, 2009

My family owns a business that sells kitchen and bath cabinets. Any ideas on way’s to advertise and make it grow effectively? It’s not that we are small, but obviously you always want more? any suggestions will me read. thanks for the help. If you are in the kitchen/bath business please let me know what did or did not work for you. Thanks for the help!

You are kidding right? Have ya heard? We are in the worse depression since 1928 and the economy still continues to deteriorate. I can promise you that the last thing on peoples minds now is spending a wad of money on a new kitchen. They dont know when they too will be layed off. Besides everyone knows homes are depreaciating at a rapid pace. Why dump $20 grand into an asset that is losing value faster then this country is losing jobs. Any child knows better then that.

Even the wealthy stopped spending money on their homes but this is the only market worth going after because some still are spending, just being more careful. The economy is choosing what cabinet to buy, not the customer. Those who walk into my showroom make a beeline for the pretty cherry but end up buying the less costly oak. As little as 3 years ago I had 3 to 5 people per week coming in with a $25,000 kitchen budget. Today once a month some one walks in with a broken drawer box they need replaced. The best part is when they walk in with a stack of bids 5" thick and ask you for another one. New home starts across America stands just about at zero.

Now to answer your question with a wish and a prayer. Advertising in newpapers or magazines is a waste of money. The consumer is numb from ads that bombard them every day. Most saying the same old crap. Lowest prices of the year. Best sale yet. Compare and save. Free installation…and on and on. Another waste of money are those contractor referral services. You pay for so called qualified leads. But only one in 100 ever call you back. Most of us honestly believe the Bob Vila and Service Master referral services have hundreds of fake phone numbers to sell leads with. Out of about 40 leads so far that we paid $25 each for, we got 2 small jobs from them.

The one thing that does work is very expensive. It’s called google optimization. It cost us $1500. What it does is anyone searching key words will get YOUR business web site as the very first listing on google. Google already knows where the searcher lives. If they simply type "cabinets" into the google search bar, YOUR company will come up because google knows the searcher lives in Anytown,USA so it will find Anytown Cabinet company.

My friend all you can do is sit and wait. I just hope you are living off the fat from the good days. But for most of us, the fat is decomposing quickly. I been in in this biz for 29 years and I still stand. But perhaps 70% of everyone I knew in the cabinet biz has moved on to something else. It is not good out there and I see little hope of any improvement in the housing market as well as the economy for a very very long time. Of course that is not what this govt says when they try to pull the wool over we the peasants heads. They are liars, criminals and crooks. I am honest and truthful with nothing to gain by being honest and truthful.

I wish you luck. I really do.

Am I in a position to buy a house or should I keep saving?

Published by admin on November 29, 2009

I am looking to buy a house or apartment in Australia by myself around the $250k – 300K range.

- I have $65K saved in cash and anticipate to have $85k by the end of this year.
- Earn $3,000 net (take home) per month
- I work for a bank so the loan would be mortgage insurance and fee free with reduced interest rate.
- I was pre-approved for $300K May 2006 with $50K saved but I didn’t feel I had enough money. So I left it although the loan is still open.

I’m 26 and not interested in getting married until at least 30 + and I want to live alone anyway whilst I’m young and free.

The main hesitation I have is that I don’t want to buy a house and be living on the bread line trying to pay it off. If this would be the case, then I’m not interested. I wish to do it properly the first time or not at all.

So, am I in a position to buy a house to live in or should I keep saving?

Any advice appreciated. Thanks :D

Determine how much you can afford to pay monthly for your mortgage, electricity, taxes, etc. Then speak to your mortgage agent and find out, based on what you want to pay monthly, just how large a loan your payment will cover. Example; If you want to pay $500/month for the mortgage, ask how much money you can borrow and not have to pay more than that.
That way you can design your home buying plan based on your lifestyle and needs. If $500 won’t pay for the kind of house you want, then wait.
Remember the second rule of business: Use the other guy’s money for as long as possible without having to pay interest;- or at the lowest possible interest.
So, if you can borrow a lot of money at a very low interest rate and then invest your own money at the same rate or higher, you win. Get it?
Find a house at a price you can afford to pay and at an interest rate that is as low as possible. Wait for the house to appreciate in value then sell and make a profit. If you can transfer your mortgage to a new home at the same low rate, then all the better. Ask your agent about that before you buy. Furthermore, if you buy an income property so that your tenants pay all or part of the mortgage, you really win. In fact, that’s one of the best ways to get filthy rich. Buy and get someone else to pay. (Third rule of business.)
And just to round off my lesson on the rules of business; Rule one: Buy low, sell high.
Enjoy! Sounds like you’re thinking straight and on the right track. Good luck!

Do employers hire people with degrees earned online?

Published by admin on November 29, 2009

I am considering earining a degree online instead of in a traditional classroom because I have children and a job, so I don’t have much time for traditional classroom learning. My eventual goal is to be a teacher so that I can be on the same schedule as my children. I am considering getting a 4 year degree online, and then doing my teacher certification traditionally. Will employers hire a person with an online degree, or are they more skeptical and prefer a traditional degree?

They will, but I think now it’s just as important WHERE you got your degree from, as much as it is that you have one.

Are the credits earned at online universities such as university of phoenix transferable to "real" colleges?

Published by admin on November 29, 2009

i’d like to go to college but have no time to go. i have 1 full time and 1 part time job which leaves no time for school. i’ve heard so many good things about online universities but am curious as to how the credits transfer to other institutions of higher learning… if at all. has anyone any experience with this?

Unless you take online classes through a legit brick and mortar university you are doomed for disappointment. U of Phoenix is not a reputable institution and many find their degrees laughable. First look at your local state colleges and see if they offer any online classes…or take online courses through a community college and then transfer after a few years (which is probably how long it will take if you don’t have the time)
